What to Expect from Invisalign

Did you know that 8 million people have turned to Invisalign for their orthodontic needs? Uncomfortable metal braces are no longer your only pathway to a dazzling smile. Invisalign isn’t just for straightening teeth — these comfortable, clear aligners can discreetly correct problems (like overbite) that impact your oral health.
Dr. Henry Suarez and our team at Healthy Dental Expression are on a mission to improve the health and appearance of your smile — and Invisalign can check off both of those boxes.
Even if you know what Invisalign is, you might not be familiar with the treatment process. In this article, we’ll cover everything you can expect from an Invisalign treatment.
What to expect … during your first appointments
Before you embark on your journey with Invisalign, Dr. Suarez will first confirm that you are an ideal candidate for Invisalign. Invisalign can treat a variety of orthodontic issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps, crowding, and crooked teeth.
Then, your Invisalign treatment plan is customized to address all of your orthodontic concerns, and thankfully, you’ll never have to deal with goopy physical impressions. That’s because your Invisalign trays are crafted for you using 3D images. The iTero Element® scanner produces clear, accurate, and precise images, so your aligner trays fit perfectly. Invisalign uses SmartTrack material to make your trays.
What to expect … during treatment
Once your trays are created, you’ll start your treatment. You’ll wear your trays for 20-22 hours each day. Every one to two weeks, you’ll replace your tray with a new set of aligner trays. Each new tray gently shifts your teeth closer and closer to their ideal location.
Although you’ll need to wear your trays diligently throughout the day, your treatment is generally more comfortable (when compared to metal braces) and faster (when compared to metal braces). You may start to see changes in as little as six weeks, and the average treatment time is 12-18 months.
Even though you use new trays every one to two weeks, you’ll still receive regular check-ups in our office. During these routine appointments (about every four to six weeks), we can make sure that your treatment plan is progressing as planned.
What to expect … after your treatment
After your treatment, it’s time to enjoy your smile! Even though you don’t need to wear your clear aligner trays anymore, you should still continue with your at-home oral care routine.
A note on shifting: Like any orthodontic treatment, it’s possible that your teeth may shift in the future. The makers of Invisalign created retainers for you to make sure that your new smile stays the way you want it.
Want to take your smile to the next level? Now that you have your teeth where you want them, consider brightening them with professional teeth whitening treatments.
