Help! My Teeth Are Yellow

Your smile doesn’t have a second chance to make a first impression. Yellow teeth can wreck your smile and self-confidence.
A white smile is brilliant and can give you a more youthful appearance. How can you turn yellow teeth into pearly whites?
Teeth whitening is a safe way to enhance your smile. Dr. Henry Suarez offers professional teeth whitening for patients at Healthy Dental Expressions in Lake Worth, Florida. Read on to learn more about how your teeth turned yellow and how professional teeth whitening can restore your smile.
Yellow teeth explained
No one is immune to yellow teeth. Here are factors that can dull your smile:
- Medications, including antibiotics and antihistamines
- Food or drink that contains natural or artificial dyes
- Genetic factors
- Mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride
- Infections during pregnancy
- Tobacco
- Poor oral hygiene
- Radiation and chemotherapy
- Skipping annual dental checkups
- Wear and tear
How to erase the yellow
If your yellow and discolored teeth are causing concern, you can buy over-the-counter whitening treatments that might make your teeth a few shades lighter. However, we recommend professional whitening treatments that are way more effective.
We offer two types of whitening treatments.
In-office whitening treatments
In-office teeth whitening is a potent and rapid way to whiten your teeth. The treatment takes about an hour. After, your teeth will look whiter and healthier.
Dr. Suarez uses the Opalescence™ whitening system, which gives you desired results in just one appointment. After Dr. Suarez cleans your teeth, he applies Opalescence whitening gel, a high-strength hydrogen peroxide that breaks up yellow pigments in your enamel. The gel also contains potassium nitrate, which reduces tooth sensitivity and strengthens enamel.
At-home whitening kits
We offer take-home whitening kits by NiteWhite®. The kits contain trays filled with whitening gel, which you wear while you sleep at night. The gel contains carbamide peroxide, which morphs into hydrogen peroxide and dislodges stains. For reduced sensitivity, the gel contains amorphous calcium phosphate. Over about two weeks, your teeth will gradually become whiter.
After you obtain the white teeth you want, you can maintain the results by booking routine cleanings, brushing twice a day, and avoiding staining food and beverages.
