You’ve been aware of it for a little while, but you didn’t think it was that bad … until this morning. When you were looking at the mirror, you couldn’t deny it anymore. Your “pearly whites” are far from it. They aren’t eggshell white, ivory, or any other off-white variation.
Your teeth are stained, and they are yellow. You also may feel a little self-conscious about that fact, too.
And you want to do something about it. But what should you do?
Run to the store to buy some whitening toothpaste? Pick up a package of whitening strips?
Or contact Dr. Henry Suarez at Healthy Dental Expressions? We offer professional teeth whitening that is stronger and works faster than anything you can find in stores.
You Should Start By Talking To A Dentist
We understand why you want to whiten your teeth. White smiles look nicer, and they appear healthier. We also know that having a white smile can help many people feel more comfortable and more confident in personal, professional, and private situations.
You should know that the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs took a look at various whitening products as more and more of them were developed. After doing this, the council made some important recommendations.
One of those recommendations is to talk to a dentist before you whiten your teeth.
Using whitening products with bleaching agents in particular can help to remove stains from your teeth. However, if you have cavities or if you have received previous dental fillings or crowns, teeth whitening may not be the best option. Likewise, a dentist may recommend another cosmetic service to whiten your smile if your tooth discoloration is the result of something other than staining.
With those caveats in mind, teeth whitening is effective for most people when done under the supervision of a dental professional.
Professional Whitening Options
At Healthy Dental Expressions, we offer both in-office and take-home whitening treatments.
If you are trying to have your teeth whitened before a special event — a wedding, a class reunion, etc. — then you may prefer our in-office option. In about an hour, you can see a significant improvement in the brightness of your smile with Opalescence Boost whitening.
If you are looking for the fastest way to whiten your smile, our in-office option is your best bet.
Many people want whiter smiles for everyday situations even if they don’t have a specific event in mind. Other people prefer to do their whitening on their own schedule. If you are one of them, then you may prefer our take-home whitening products.
After creating a custom-fitted set of dental trays, we will provide you with whitening solution and instructions on how to use it. By using custom-molded trays, the solution will create a more even whiteness to your smile.
In a matter of weeks, you can see big improvements to your smile.
Commercial Whitening Products
We know it’s tempting to pick up the whitening products while you are at the store. They are easy to find and convenient to use, and there are dozens of them to choose.
But do they work? To varying degrees, yes … but not as well as professional whitening will.
When the ADA council looked at various whitening products, they put toothpaste in a different category than products with bleaching agents. Whitening toothpaste can remove some surface stains, but it won’t remove the deeper stains below the surface.
Whitening products with bleaching agents (e.g. gels, strips) can get some of those deeper stains. They just aren’t as strong as professional products.
You could look at it this way. Over-the-counter products are like cleaning your driveway with a garden hose that has a spray attachment. Professional whitening is like cleaning that same driveway with an industrial pressure washer. Both can do the job, but one is going to be much more efficient and effective than the other.
